December 1, 2016 – Denver, CO, and Cincinnati, OH –  ICC – Innovate. Coach. Consult., an OI Global Partner, has released the results of its Future of Work survey of human resources professionals from North America, Europe, UK and Australia.

“Despite the differences in location and industry, there are common challenges and risks which organizations are facing, and they are implementing solutions that are effective in managing an increasingly diverse workforce,” said Susan Ruhl, founding partner of ICC, Inc. and Board Chair of OI Global Partners.

Among the key findings, respondents indicated that the top four skills employees must have for companies to be competitive in today’s marketplace include:

  1. Strong communication ability
  2. Willingness to learn
  3. Understanding analytics
  4. Managing diversity

“As companies are faced with high velocity change, identifying and developing people who have a willingness to learn, can communicate effectively and manage diversity helps to keep companies nimble and moving forward,” suggested Ruhl.

Other findings noted that the most significant human resources challenges organizations are currently tackling include:

  1. Attracting and hiring talent
  2. Adapting to change
  3. Retaining talent
  4. Employee engagement

Alternately, the survey results also revealed that organizations are finding the following as the most effective ways to develop their people and address the other challenges:

  1. Internal leadership development programs
  2. Career conversations
  3. Internal coach training
  4. External leadership development programs

Finally, respondents indicated which roles are in decline or at risk in their organizations. Specifically, which jobs, functions or levels were being reduced or eliminated. Administrative roles are by far the most at risk, followed by middle management, back office, support services and technical roles.
